Germany ›Supplying Europe
Europe is a standards market before it is a price market. Tiles placed here must carry CE marking with a Declaration of Performance against EN 14411, and buyers routinely ask for the test data before they ask for a quotation. That suits a manufacturer, because we can produce the figures from our own testing rather than requesting them from a mill.
Frost resistance is a genuine annual load rather than a specification formality. Any tile going onto an external surface in northern Europe will see freeze-thaw cycling every winter, which is why water absorption below 0.5 per cent and EN ISO 10545-12 testing are non-negotiable here in a way they are not in tropical markets.
Expectations on finish are also higher as standard. Rectified edges, tight calibre tolerance and consistent shade batching are assumed rather than treated as upgrades, and 20 mm pavers for pedestal-mounted terraces are a far larger share of the mix than in our other regions.
