Tiles for Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants
A hotel is really two buildings with different rules. Front of house is judged entirely on how it looks under lighting a designer chose. Back of house is judged on whether it survives a commercial kitchen and a laundry. The same project needs both specifications, and the programme has an immovable opening date attached.
Specification by area
| Area | Specify | Governing factor |
|---|---|---|
| Lobby and reception | PGVT gloss or big slab | First impression under designed lighting |
| Guest room | Large format GVT | Appearance, low traffic |
| Guest bathroom | Textured GVT, R10-R11 | Wet, barefoot, liability |
| Corridor | Double charged or full body | Trolley traffic all day, every day |
| Restaurant floor | Matt GVT or double charged | Spills, chairs dragging |
| Commercial kitchen | Full body anti-skid, R12 | Grease, water, hygiene regulation |
| Poolside | Outdoor R11-R12 | Barefoot on a permanently wet surface |
| Terrace and balcony | Outdoor full body, R11 | Sun, rain, thermal movement |
| Back of house and laundry | Full body, R11 | Heat, chemicals, trolleys |
| Spa and wet areas | Textured, R11 | Continuous humidity |
Two things that decide a hospitality job
The first is poolside slip resistance, which is the single largest liability exposure in a hotel. Barefoot traffic on a permanently wet surface is the most demanding slip case there is, and it is worth over-specifying: R11 as an absolute minimum, R12 on any slope or step, and light tones so the surface does not become too hot to stand on. Every year hotels are sued over poolside falls, and the specification is the first document that gets examined.
The second is the programme. A hotel has a published opening date, marketing committed against it and staff hired to it, and the tiling sits near the end of the critical path. Single-batch production for a whole property takes three to five weeks before shipping, and sea freight adds three to five weeks more. Ordering late does not compress; it just means the opening slips. We schedule hospitality containers by area — back of house first, guest rooms next, lobby last — so trades can follow each other rather than waiting on one delivery.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न
What slip rating does a hotel poolside need?
R11 as a minimum and R12 on any slope, step or ramp. This is the highest-liability surface in a hotel and is worth over-specifying. Light tones also matter, because a dark tile around a pool becomes too hot to walk on barefoot.
Can you match tiles to a designer specification?
Yes. Send the specification or a physical sample and we will match the decor, the format and the finish, or produce to it under OEM if the quantity justifies a dedicated run.
How far ahead should a hotel order?
Allow three to five weeks for single-batch production plus sea freight and clearance. For a full property, starting three to four months before the tiling date gives room for sample approval, production and phased delivery.
Can deliveries be phased by area?
Yes, and we recommend it. Back of house first, guest floors next, lobby and public areas last, so the trades can follow each other and the site is not storing the whole order at once.
Discuss a hospitality project
Send the area schedule and the opening date. We will work backwards to a production and delivery programme.
